Product Description

Good Morning!

Bacchus is pleased to present the Mucci Mix Six for today’s feature.

Mucci Imports, an agile and almost guerilla-warfare like company brings to us unique Italian wines that are hard to classify in the sometimes stodgy categories of winedom. Unlike traditional suppliers who adhere to celebrity and chase trends created by supermarket skus, the Mucci brothers seek out the unfamiliar — farmers and wine practitioners who are heralded locally but without fame and fortune.

How successful are they? This may surprise you – the No. 1 seller of wine at our Vin Bin Grand Wine Tastings over the past three years has been Mucci Imports. Not the boys from Napa, not our beloved French, not the value Spanish – but the Albanellos, the Erbaluce, Freghino, Ciliegiolo, with an occasional Nebbiolo, Montepulciano and Barbera tossed in. And take this fact with you: Most all Mucci Imports are NATURAL wines – highlighted here because that is a term frequently misused – but not in this case. Certain wines Mucci imports are certified natural — a category beyond mere organic.

We are partners with Mucci in a sense; they supply delicious wine, we sample them with you, you buy, we all go home happy.

But COVID has tossed an obstacle in our routine. We cannot spend the up close and personal time to describe and entice you with Mucci tales, so their wines may go unnoticed. Sad.

That’s why we came up with the Mucci Mix Six. We have selected a few of the Mucci wines we just love and will send them home with you – at a discount – and let you enjoy at your leisure.

Here’s what you will get:

(2 bottles) 2018 La Segreta Freghino. Umbria. The  “younger” brother to the Pottarello, an all-time Vin Bin favorite. Made from the same blend as Pottarello — Sangiovese, Malvasia Nera and Colorino, this wine is ready earlier and retains a freshness of bright fruit, berries and touch of oak. Not only organic, it is natural. Just grapes, wild yeast and blending – if you grabbed a bunch of grapes from the vine squeezed them into a glass and let them ferment – it couldn’t be any more natural. Wife Eileen is from the Berkshires, so we have a local tie-in as well.

(1 bottle) 2018 Francesco Brigatti ‘Mottobello’ Erbaluce. Piedmont. A zesty Italian white from vineyards dense with minerals. Citrus laced, if a wine could be considered electric, this would be it. Aroma is perfumed with flowers and crispy fruit while the palate is pure energy. A looong finish. Another Natural wine. By the way, this wine is in very short supply – more than 30% of the crop was eaten by deer.

(1 bottle) 2018 Edoardo Patrone PSB Nebbiolo/Merlot plus 12 other varietals. Piedmont. Another Natural wine, as true a field blend as ever there was. Edoardo makes wine where he finds the grapes, thus the dozen or so varietals. His “touch” when it comes to blending is nearly mystical — a cuvee of melded flavors and aromas – from mocha, to leather to licorice to cherry. The wine is a quaffer and the product of spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts. So good.

(2 bottles) 2017 Cantina Gulino Albanello “Pretiosa”. Sicily. With notes of tropical fruit, pineapple, touch of honey, this historic wine is braced with vanilla and almond and a dose of spice. A steely structure supports the palate, making it worthy of hearty seafood. Albanello is a rare grape, winemaker Sebastiano Gulino went on a quest to “rescue” this grape, finding vines in abandoned vineyards and bringing them back to his family’s property. Pretiosa is the only 100% Albanello that exists today.

We have a limited supply of the Mucci Mix Six, thus we aren’t able to make substitutions. Let a case follow you home.
