Product Description

Hi Folks!

Another Saturday night special for your imbibing pleasure.

The 2017 Clos St. Thomas Les Gourmet Blanc on stage, and just in time.

Clos St. Thomas hails from the historical Bekaa Valley vineyards in Lebanon. To many oenophiles, the Valley holds an endearing place – it is considered the earliest producer of the wine we drink – believed to be created by Phoenicians and spread throughout the Old World. The Romans, so inspired by the vines, created Bacchus, the god of wine, in the Valley.

Nothing has changed in thousands of years, the influence of the sea, the temperate climate – never getting too hot, yet cool enough to set grapes, and best of all, rain only early season and dry at harvest.

The Lebanese follow French techniques and use almost exclusively French varietals. Political upheaval in Lebanon in the second half of the 20th Century stalled winemaking, yet Lebanon is now making up for lost time.

The Les Gourmet Blanc is the quintessential pairing for that most typical of Lebanese dishes – the mezze spread. From creamy hummus and smoky baba ganoush, to crumbly falafel or salty spinach and feta boregi, Lebanese cuisine is packed with color and bold flavors taken on brilliantly by the Gourmet Blanc. Mint, garlic, earthy cumin, sumac and coriander, sharp citrus and tahini are key ingredients to many a mezze spread, with enough varying textures and contrasting tastes to test this wine, and in true homegrown fashion, Les Gourmet is up to the challenge.

The Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier and Obeidy blend produces a wine refreshingly crisp and dry. The Guava, lemon and honey on the palate with pomegranate and tropical fruit on the nose make it almost a pity that it has to be drunk and not just inhaled.

Clos St. Thomas has been around the Vin Bin for more than a decade, when we were first introduced to Chafic, a local wine and olive oil importer. Hundreds of cases of St. Thomas have marched through our doors – it is a staff and customer favorite.

Tonight, we work with Chafic to get a goodly amount into your hands at bargain prices. We don’t normally demand you buy in quantity, but we think you ought to on this one.
